Omega Watches – An Intriguing Look At The History Behind

Omega Watches – An Intriguing Look At The History Behind These Luxurious Watches

Engineered to the nth degree, the Omega watch brand is a staple on many a well-to-do man’s dresser; tucked safely away inside its luxurious velvet box, ensuring that this extremely fine timepiece will be free from dust and scratches when not eloquently strapped to its owner’s wrist.

Now let’s take a brief but intriguing look at the history behind these luxurious watches long before they signed Hollywood A-list stars Nicole Kidman and George Clooney, as well as tennis superstar Maria Sharapova, to become their celebrity endorsers.

The fairy tale known as the Omega Watch Company actually started way back in the 19th Century -1848 to be exact, when the Omega founder, Louis Brandt, a Swiss watchmaker who resided in La Chaux-de-Fonds in Switzerland, began creating his “Omega” masterpieces. Of course, back then he constructed each piece using only his bare hands by meticulously assembling each watch piece by piece.

The first watches that Mr. Brandt made were pocket watches, because back then they were the timepiece that was considered to be vogue and were highly sought after and cherished. In the mid 1800’s the thought of attaching a bracelet to their time piece never even crossed a persons mind. The fashionable and preferred thing to do was to carry their beloved “Omega” watches – which, at the time were called “Bienne” watches – in their pockets.

Unfortunately, Mr. Louis Brandt passed away in 1879 and he left his modest company to his sons, Louis Paul Brandt and Cesar Brandt who carried on their father’s tradition of impeccable pocket watch craftsmanship. They decided to rename the company “Bienne” in January 1880.

The birth of the Omega watch brand actually took place in 1894, more than a decade after the renaming of the company to Bienne. Louis and Cesar Brandt introduced, for the first time, the brand “Omega” to the Swiss public. Over time, the Omega watch has come to be one of Switzerland’s biggest and most luxurious exports. The Omega watch name actually came from one of the two Brandt brother’s watch movement calibers.

Sadly, the reign of the two Brandt brothers in the Omega watch company was short-lived because both brothers suddenly died in 1903. This resulted in four individuals taking control of the Omega watch company. One of the individuals was Paul Brandt, who not only inherited the Brandt family name but their entrepreneurial instincts as well. At just 23 years old, Paul was actually the oldest of the four who took over the Omega watch company after the death of the Brandt brothers.

After a merger with fellow Swiss luxury watch brand, Tissot in 1930, SSIH (Socit suisse pour l’industrie horlogre) in Geneva, Switzerland was created as the new parent company of the newly merged watch companies. Fortunately, the merger between Tissot and Omega was a big success, which is why in a relatively short time the SSIH group grew to over fifty other companies including Lemania, Lanco and Hamilton. And in a relatively short period of time, the SSIH group has managed to position themselves as the third largest producer of luxury watches, as well as watch movements in the world.

It was during this time when Omega produced a number of its most loved time pieces. Vintage Omega watches that are still highly sought and are famous to this day.

During the Second World War, Omega built a solid reputation for themselves by coming out with military and pilot watches for servicemen. They have always been known for their fine craftsmanship and their great attention to detail. Other popular watches from that era were the Omega Speedmaster chronograph, the Omega Seamaster waterproof sports watch and the Omega Constellation watches, which are all still incredibly popular.

During an economic downturn in 1980, Omega found itself once again merging with another Swiss watch giant – ASUAG, which manufactures and produces other popular Swiss watches such as Swatch, Longines and Rado. The new company that emerged from the Omega-ASUAG merger was called the ASUAG-SSIH company. Unfortunately, even the combined resources of the newly formed company was unable to fight off the economic slump that Omega was facing during that time which resulted in the newly formed company to be taken over by a private group. The ASUAG-SSIH company was renamed and shortened to just SMH which still exists today.

Wolf Jewelry: Dances With Vogue

When shopping for jewelry, one can see two extremes in any motif lineup: the delicate, feminine extreme, and the strong, masculine extreme. Among the “strong” extremes, wolf jewelry stands out as a common favorite — it is, after all, the symbol of virility and independence, rebellion and complete self-possession. When one wears the most common types of masculine wolf jewelry, one is virtually saying, “I’m tough; don’t mess with me.” But nowadays, a greater diversity of designs exists for jewelry themes, even wolf jewelry. For example: the popular fantasy comic Elfquest’s artist Wendy Pini has popularized the use of delicate wolf motifs, which are smoothly curving, streamlined and sensual without compromising the impregnable visage of the real-life wolf. Pini’s wolf designs symbolize neither male nor female, but nature as a whole. Kevin Costner made a smash hit with his appearance in the romantic period dramatic film “Dances With Wolves.” In that movie he celebrated the qualities that are as essential to humans as they are to wolves: loyalty, honor, trust and freedom. Wolves remain a symbol of all these virtues. The moon is also associated very closely with the image of the wolf, as images of wolves howling at the full moon continue to be popular in today’s culture. Wolves are known to be solitary creatures, but as a matter of fact only a few are known to be certified “lone wolves” — that is, wolves that have decided to leave the pack and hunt on their own. Lone wolves are rather rare, but their lives burn brightly; their achievements may not be acknowledged by members of their own species, but they are certainly remembered by the world around them. Many people who identify with wolves fancy that they are most attuned to the lone wolf: the seductive outcast who is making his or her own way into the world, regardless of what anyone else thinks. In a way this is so: the lone wolf is often what is depicted in wolf jewelry, with its grim demeanor, quick wit, grace accentuated by speed and stealth, and the courage to find its own path through life.

Wearing Jewelry LIke a Pro – New Fun Ways to Wear Your Jewelry

As with everything else in life, sometimes we fall into habits in how we wear our jewelry. We put the brooch on out left shoulder, we wear the same necklace with the same dress and the same earrings. This article will help stimulate your thinking about how you wear jewelry. It’s not exhaustive — if you have other ideas of better ways to use jewelry, let me know. Pins are perhaps the most versatile of jewelry. In addition to the usual shoulder or lapel, they are often worn with scarves. Try these other ways of wearing your pins to extend your jewelry vocabulary. Pins on hats. Wearing a pin on a hat has a very long tradition As hats become popular once again we can start making use of this great old technique. You can pin the brooch on the hatband or higher up on the crown of the hat, or use it to hold up part of the brim (If your hat has a brim). Use a whole circle of pins around the hatband for a charming effect (especially effective with animal jewelry). Make a whole menagerie for your hat. Play with your animal jewelry brooches as if your were playing jungle as a child. Pins can also be worn on belts and handbags. Try a pin on your belt a bit off to one side. If it’s a belt with a simple or self buckle, this can add just the bit of extra interest you need (especially if you have a slim waist to show off). Putting a brooch on an old handbag can give it new life. You can also take a plain purse and dress it up for evening by the addition of a brooch or two. Brooches can be added to hair clips to make a one of a kind hair ornament. Or string your favorite brooch on a cord. By knotting the cord and tying the brooch in the middle you can keep many pins upright and hanging correctly. You now have a whole new pendant. Try a line of 3 or 4 brooches running down the thigh of your jeans. Or group several brooches across your bodice like a necklace. You can even use brooches on your shoes, if they are of the right sort. This is an unusual technique that’s sure to get you noticed. Rings, of course, can be worn on chains around your neck as well as on your fingers. In the Renaissance they used to make very large rings specifically to be worn around the neck (they were too big for anyone but a giant to wear on their fingers). You can also weave rings into your hair. Whether you have long hair or short, you can put the ring very close to your scalp and then braid it in. This is a fun technique to give a little sparkle and curiosity to an otherwise commonplace hairdo. Of course necklaces are great woven into hair too. This is a technique that’s been practiced for centuries. During the time of the Louis’s, French women had elaborate wigs with necklaces already woven in. Queen Elizabethan (and other Renaissance ladies) also wore necklaces with strings of jewels woven into her elaborate hairdos. If you have some long necklaces that unclip, try weaving them around a belt before putting it on. You can secure the ends with a small piece of tape or tie them on with a big of colored string. This can make a plain black dress upscale evening attire. A great tip for travelers. If you have a charm bracelet or three, try adding a chain or cord to each end and wearing it as a necklace — fun and tres chic. The possibilities are endless… Just let your imagine take flight, and let me know if you come out with other great ways to wear jewelry. More great articles on jewelry are waitin

Truth behind the reputation of Italian designer jewelry

Italian designs are considered to be top notch in many consumer good markets including fashion, jewelry, decors and furniture. We know so because major department stores are advertising Italian fashions and jewelry as luxurious products. What are the real reasons behind all these appreciation and adoration? When we think of the biggest movie industry in the world, we probably would think of Hollywood. For information technology leader in the world, the icon would be the Silicon Valley in California. The same factors behind these two successes apply to the success of Italian products, which is the resource available to the industry in the country provided by the people and the government. United States government funds many research projects in the top engineering schools including U.C. Berkeley, Stanford and M.I.T. The availability of financial resources cultivates the possibilities of implementing and experimenting new ideas, some of which turned out to be major breakthroughs in human history. In Italy, the system for education of creative design work is very established. Renowned design schools include L’Atelier and Fashion Design Academy in Firenze. In fact, the city of Firenze is known for the fashion and jewelry design it produces. This is the same place where the chief designer of Tiffany & Co. Edward C. Moore came from. The combination of governmental support and the enthusiasms of general public in that area enable the design industries to thrive and become the leader of fashion and jewelry of the world. The consequence of the initial success of Italy fashion is more attention, as well as competition. Granted, talented people around the world would like to study in Italy if they want to develop a career in the fashion or jewelry industry. On the other hand, the competition among the designer themselves became more severe. As a result, the designers would have to put out their best to set themselves apart from their fellow designers. Only in this kind of competitive environment can the best quality products be produced. Another reason that Italian products are welcome as high class and luxurious goods is that Italian artist or designers never compromise the quality of their work to lower the price of the products. From the leather of shoes, fabrics of clothes and wood for furniture, they always use the best quality of raw material they can find. The consistency and high level of craftsmanship combined with the best material build up the confidence of consumers over the last couple centuries. For those who know the Italian life style, they probably agree that Italians, in general, have a passion for life. They enjoy life and “take from the world the best”. This trait passes on from generation to generation. Not only in fashion and jewelry can we see the manifestation of it, we can also witness that in art, music and theater performance. I guess when you do what you real enjoy, that’s when you give the best results. In a nutshell, the quality and designs of Italian designer jewelry is substantiated by a combination of resources, culture and life style of Italians and the tradition of excellence. No wonder the whole world is following Italy’s lead when it comes to fashion and jewelry.

What To Look For When Buying Gold Jewelry

Gold jewelry is a look that has never gone out of style and is as popular as ever. Purer gold jewelry does not cause staining or tarnishing like inferior alloy blends. Usually if someone has a problem with staining on their skin it is due to their body and not the gold. Gold is very malleable and as such can be made into just about any shape including tiny hair like strands and thin sheets. One of the main things most people look for when purchasing gold jewelry is the purity. The jewelry industry has a universal system for identifying this factor. Chances are the ring on your finger is marked 18K, 14K, or 10K, with the K standing for karat, the system used to describe the percentage of pure gold an item contains.

The higher the karat number, the higher the percentage of gold in your gold jewelry. • 24K gold is pure gold. • 18K gold contains 18 parts gold and 6 parts of one or more additional metals, making it 75% gold. • 14K gold contains 14 parts gold and 10 parts of one or more additional metals, making it 58.3% gold. • 12K gold contains 12 parts gold and 12 parts of one or more additional metals, making it 50% gold. • 10K gold contains 10 parts gold and 14 parts of one or more additional metals, making it 41.7% gold. 10K gold is the minimum karat that can be called “gold” in the United States. European gold jewelry is marked with numbers that indicate their percentage of gold, such as: • 18K gold is marked 750 to indicate 75% gold • 14K gold is marked 585 for 58.5% • 12K gold is marked 417 for 41.7% The karat marking on your gold jewelry should be accompanied by a hallmark or trademark that identifies its maker. The item’s country of origin might also be included. You’ll find examples of pure gold jewelry, but pure gold is soft and isn’t practical for daily wear. Other metals are mixed with it to make it more durable (and to lower its cost). Solid gold is durable, so it is a better choice for jewelry you’ll wear regularly. If you have allergies to nickel or other metals, choose items that have high gold content, such as 18K or 22K gold jewelry.

Online Jewelry Purchases Makes Life So Much Easier

This article was written to answer many of the most frequently asked questions on this topic. I hope you find this information helpful. Did you know that jewelry is just a click away?

Jewelry purchases are increasing in leaps and bounds with Americans spending over $50 billion each year on such items as jewelry and watches. Instead of spending hours going through malls and scouting out the perfect earrings and necklaces, consumers can shop for jewelry in the comfort of their own homes.

When shopping for jewelry, it’s important to have an understanding of the fundamental materials and stones. The following information should be of help with your purchase:

Materials: Yellow Gold – Pure gold (24 kt. gold) is too soft to use in jewelry, so it is combined with silver to form a metal mixture consisting of 14 kt. gold.

White Gold – White gold is has no color and won’t tarnish, and is usually a mixture of gold and nickel.

Sterling Silver – Silver is too soft for use in jewelry, so silver is combined with 7.5% of other metals (usually copper) to produce sterling silver.

Platinum – A gorgeous silver-white color, platinum occurs as an alloy in nature. It’s tarnish-resistant qualities and durability make it a favorite material for fine jewelry.

Gemstones: There are a wide variety of gemstones in jewelry. There are everything from diamonds to garnets and emeralds to sapphires. Gemstones add glitter to all kinds of jewelry from earrings to rings. Numerous jewelers use simulated gemstones which offer the sparkle of the “real thing” at a far lesser price.

Birthstones: Jewelry that uses birthstones is an enduring favorite, specially when given as a gift. The following gemstones and colors are associated with each birthday month: January: Garnet (dark red) February: Amethyst (purple) March: Aquamarine (pale blue) April: Diamond (starlight) May: Emerald (light green) June: Pearl, White (pearlescent) July: Ruby (red) August: Peridot (pale green) September: Sapphire, Blue (deep blue) October: Opal (moonlight) November: Citrine (yellow) December: Topaz, Blue (sky blue)

Trends Having the latest jewelry trends is helpful when buying fine jewelry for yourself or as a gift. For example, this season, celebrities are wearing ear pins and ear cuffs both on and off the red carpet. . Whether made from gold or silver, ear cuffs add that pizzaz required to make you stand out and feel beautiful.

When choosing earrings or necklaces with gemstones, the key this season is to combine colors for maximum effect. For example, pair a deep blue with garnet, or purple with medium green.

Online Shopping When shopping for fine jewelry online, be sure to click on to a reputable site.

European Style, Chinese Muscle

The Great Wall of China is not working. Built in 200 BC to protect the land from Mongols hoards, the Great Wall is a symbol of the vast breadth and scope of the economic development of the Chinese nation. International corporations have taken the place of invading Mongols, as they have occupied the Chinese worker in factories across the country. With the approval of the Chinese government, businesses around the globe have made China their main industrial source for all things manufactured. The silver jewelry industry is one such example.

The latest in silver jewelry designs come primarily from Europe, mostly from Italy. Annually, Europeans hold highly anticipated fairs and conventions featuring the newest styles in jewelry. From clothing fashion to jewelry design, Europeans have always been at the forefront of inspired modern style. Yet due to the rise in cost of production as influenced by higher wages for workers and regulatory restrictions in the production process, Europe, as a whole, finds itself unable to compete with Asia from a manufacturing standpoint.

European countries tend to feature the rights of individual workers in terms of reasonable

compensation for services rendered, as well as protection from discrimination and an expectation of fair treatment. There are also restrictions concerning environmental standards for production, waste and materials that may be generally harmful. Most countries in the west adhere to these seemingly righteous societal constructs. As a result, the hands of the factory owners in Europe are tied, rightfully so. China, however, has a different perspective.

Workers in China dont have the benefits of their counterparts in Europe. The government, as a non-elected body has allowed for the purest form of capitalism with market forces dictating all, without concern to the well being of the people and the environment. There are no restrictions concerning the individuals rights of worker to receive proper compensation and fair treatment, rather it depends on what depths the workers are willing to go. There are no regulations concerning the environmental impact of manufacturing, allowing for the cheaper production of goods. As a result, Chinese labor is the most cost efficient and productive in the world. Enter, silver jewelry.

The only advantage Europeans have is traditionally, they have set the trends when it comes to silver jewelry, including a high standard of craftsmanship. European retailers have remained loyal to their industrial core but more and more they are viewing China as a formidable opportunity. Other types of jewelry markets such as gold and gemstones have long since been penetrated by Chinese manufacturers. Silver has been the least affected industry as the Chinese manufacturing machine was busy in other more ostensibly profitable jewelry markets. It is within the last 10 years that Silver has been recognized as a viable industry with a great potential. So what was China to do match the quality and style of the Europeans?

China has had to compensate by introducing products based on European designs, in effect duplicating the look of the European style. They have also maintained a high level of quality craftsmanship including the use of .925 sterling silver and cubic zirconia imported from Russia. All is not lost for the Europeans, however, as they have maintained a strong hold on the production of sterling silver chains and necklaces, known worldwide for their distinctive perennial designs.

It is hard to predict how this awkward relationship of style and substance between the Europeans and the Chinese will play out. Will China gain the ability to create inspired original design? Or will the Europeans find a means by which to produce their ideas more efficiently, perhaps through the onset of industrial and technological advances? Regardless of how this competition may develop, businesses in Europe and America will gladly benefit with lower prices and high quality merchandise for their customers, ensuring more silver jewelry will be bought and sold than ever before.

What You Always Wanted To Know About Diamond Vs Moissanite

This article was written to answer many of the most frequently asked questions on this topic. I hope you find this information helpful. Whether to choose a diamond or a moissanite is actually a matter of choice. Moissanite is gorgeous, eye-catching jewelry and is budget-friendly. It does, however, represent a far less valuable financial investment, meaning the market and resale value is lower. It really depends on what the purchase is for. To the untrained eye, it is almost impossible to tell the two apart. Moissanite and diamonds cannot be told apart without the patented Model 590 Charles & Colvard, Ltd. tester. Viewed at a certain distance from the naked eye under the illumination of a penlight, you will know a moissanite double refraction of light. This will show up in a rainbow pattern that is not present in diamonds. If there is the presence of miniscule pipe-like inclusions under magnification, that would indicate that the stone under examination is a moissanite. The most significant difference between diamonds and moissanite is that of industrial applications. A diamond has a legendary value as ‘anvil material’ that moissanite does not have owing to its inherent elasticity under extreme heat conditions. Moissanite is unstable at temperatures exceeding 400 degrees and is quite unreliable at temperatures reaching 1000 degrees. Moissanite also has so-called “”shear stress”” properties. After further development in the manufacturing process, it is possible that moissanite will match diamond’s industrial value. Currently, diamond is still the best for industrial-grade hardness. Have you heard about “The Four Cs of Diamonds?”— cut, clarity, color, and carat determine diamond grade. A diamond certificate is provided for each diamond and includes grades for each of the four Cs as documented by a gemologist. Cut refers to the physical cut, not the shape of the diamond; it affects the brilliance of the diamond. If the cut is too shallow or too deep, the refraction of the light detracts from the brilliance. Grades for cut include Ideal, premium, very good, good, fair and poor. Noe that only the round diamonds have the ideal grade. Clarity measures the purity of the diamond. Most diamonds include some flaws, called inclusions. All but the rare flawless diamonds contain inclusions of varying numbers and sizes. The purity of the diamond is measured. Clarity grades the appearance under 10X magnification. Top grades include F (flawless— you’ll never see this), IF (internally flawless, you’ll never afford it), VVS1-VVS2 (very, very slightly flawed—This is a ittle more realistic), VS1-VS2 (very slightly flawed), and SI1-SI2 (slightly flawed). All but the VS1-VS2 and SI1-SI2 diamonds contain flaws that are invisible or barely visible under 10X magnification. Lesser grades include I1- -I3 (flawed and obvious without magnification). If price is a consideration, then invisible to the naked eye is the way to go. Color suggests the absence of color in diamonds. The finest diamonds are colorless, which allows them to absorb and reflect more light, allowing more brilliance. White diamonds range from ice white to light yellow. Color is graded on a scale from D-Z, with D-grade diamonds being colorless and Z-grade diamonds containing the most color. Grades G-J are near colorless to the human eye, and offer the best value for the money. Carat refers to weight. Large diamonds are rare so the price rises exponentially rather than arithmetically according to carat weight.

Turquoise Necklace Facts and Beliefs

‘Pieces of sky.’ That’s how turquoise was called by some Native American tribes. Indeed, it requires no great stretch of the imagination to understand why turquoise was referred to as such. Just as the heavens could be a peaceful or stormy blue, so could turquoise seem to express different moods with its different shades of blue and green. Wearing pieces of sky in a turquoise necklace is a provocative and attractive idea. Known as the birthstone of December, turquoise can be opaque or translucent, and a turquoise necklace made of beads conveys an iridescent, whimsical effect. Some jewelry designers set their turquoise necklaces in platinum, silver, or gold; at times, they use other gemstones in conjunction with turquoise for a complementary, enhancing effect. Chokers or neckbands decorated with turquoise are also popular as fashion accessories. Necklaces made from Persian or Iranian turquoise are the most expensive, since this variety of turquoise is considered to be of the highest quality. However, less expensive varieties are available from Mexican, Chinese, Egyptian and American sources. Turquoise necklaces are popular items in Native American and Southern jewelry collections, but by and large, they have found their way into mainstream culture. They are perfect for casual wear, especially during summer, but can also be worn combined with other jewels for more formal occasions. Socialite Nicky Hilton, country singer Lari White and actress Ali Landry are some of the celebrities who have been photographed wearing turquoise necklaces. According to gemologists, turquoise is believed by people of different cultures to have healing, protective, and restorative powers. Folklore also tells us that turquoise would fade or change color when the wearer was in danger or if a lover had been unfaithful. Whether a person believes in such tales or not, the fact remains that a turquoise necklace and other pieces of turquoise jewelry are not only fashionable and beautiful dress accessories, they have also played a major role in the shaping of various cultures as well.

Celebrities and their Sunglasses

Every celebrity out there knows the real value of a pair of designer sunglasses. Whether it’s to hide the effects of a late night out on the town or an effort to blend in on the street, a pair of quality sunglasses is absolutely indispensable. We’ve seen a lot of trends come and go, but a great pair of sunglasses will always transcend the passing fads of the day. With the summer just around the corner, we have begun our fashion trend spotting efforts for 2006. Like years passed, celebrities are on the forefront of eyewear fashion. One of my favorite pastimes is to monitor the fashion trends of my favorite celebrities. As with last season, big sunglasses are all the rage for the ladies. God bless you, Jackie O! Carmen Electra is one of my favorite celebrities, and one of the most stylish women in entertainment. While I could do without another season of her dreadful “reality” television show, I am dying to get my hands on a pair of the Missoni shades she was recently spotted in. They are oversized and oh-so-glamorous! Catherine Zeta-Jones may have a thing for old, outdated actors but her fashion sense is as fresh as a spring breeze. I recently saw her sporting a pair of Dolce & Gabbana glasses that were out of this world! I suspect they were the utterly amazing “4005” model. They were black, with the D&G logo designed into the arms of the glasses. The shades are big, bold, and beautiful! Heidi Klum, our favorite supermodel and partygirl, has incredible fashion sense. I saw a picture of her earlier this week wearing a classic pair of Aviator shades. While a number of people in the fashion industry have been lamenting the prevalence of Aviator shades, I couldn’t imagine a world without them. Heidi was wearing a pair made by Ray Ban, and they were absolutely fabulous! Speaking of partygirls, how could I go on without mentioning Paris Hilton? I adore Paris. She may not be taken seriously as an actress or singer, but she reigns supreme over the fashion world. She was recently spotted wearing a pair of the new Oakley glasses for women. That’s right, kids. Oakley just launched a new line of shades exclusively for women, and they are the must-have item for this fashion year. Believe the Hype!

Twelve Tips for Greater Enjoyment of your Gold and Silver Jewelry

Jewelry can be beautiful to look at, fun to buy, and can make bold and revealing statements about you. Hear are some tips for greater enjoyment of your favorite gold and silver jewelry. 1. Never swim in a chlorinated pool while wearing gold and silver jewelry. 2. Always apply make-up, perfumes, oils or colognes before you put on your gold and silver jewelry 3. Keep both your skin and your gold and silver jewelry clean and free of oil. 4. Using an absorbent, abrasive-free body powder on areas that your gold and silver jewelry touches your skin can help with skin discoloration. 5. If you do have any skin discoloration you may need to move to a higher gold content. Say, from 14K gold jewelry to 18K jewelry. 6. Are your gold and silver chains all tied-up in knots? If so, here’s a nifty little trick for straightening them out. Dust your chain with a little talcum powder and then try to unknot it. If the knot is stubborn, place a small drop of baby oil on a sheet of wax paper. Lay the knot in the oil and work it out with two pins; then clean the chain as instructed below. 7. Don’t be afraid to wear gold and silver jewelry together. Artful use of accessories that use both metals provide an effective visual segue’ or bridge. 8. For daily cleaning it is recommended to use a simple jewelry polishing cloth that is impregnated with special jewelry cleaner. These are widely available and are very easy to use. Store your cloth in a plastic zip-lock bag, and keep in your jewelry drawer or armoire. It is a good idea to have one cleaning cloth for gold and one for silver. 9. For a Super Spring Cleaning of your gold and silver jewelry, mix 1cup of clean warm water with ½ cup of ammonia. Soak your jewelry in this solution for about 15 minutes; gently scrub with a soft, clean toothbrush, then rinse in warm water. Air dry on an absorbent paper towel. When thoroughly dry, you may lightly buff with a soft flannel cloth. 10. If a ring gets stuck on your finger; spray the area surrounding the ring with Windex. Wiggle and twist the ring right off. 11. For a slightly more “in depth” cleaning you may want to use a liquid jewelry cleaner. 12. For cleaning badly tarnished silver, here’s a neat little trick. A. Cover the inside bottom of a heat-proof glass dish on bowl with a piece of aluminum foil, shiny side up. B. Place the tarnished silver in the bottom of the dish, contacting the aluminum foil. C. Add 1 heaping tablespoon of baking soda, and then slowly pour boiling water to cover the piece. The tarnish will gradually collect on the aluminum foil. D. Remove your silver, rinse thoroughly, and polish.
